There are a lot of stories going around about what happened with PUBG Kr. Why did countries get banned? Why did countries ban the game? A lot of these stories don’t seem true. So I decided to create the most complete and honest story about what truly happened to this version of PUBG.
Maybe you have also questions like:
Can I play PUBG Kr in my country? Is it better than PUBG Global? These are two important questions which I will answer as well in today’s article. You will also know:
- Why PUBG Kr was made in the first place
- What exactly happened with all the bans
- If you are allowed to play this Korean version
- If PUBG Mobile Kr is better than PUBG Mobile Global
- Your solution to still play the game!
In case you don’t know why there’s so much demand for the PUBG title, you should know this. It is one of the best battle-royale games next to others like Call of Duty or Free Fire. It is nominated for eSports Game of the Year 2021, and it has more than 1 billion downloads. So if you’re looking to play this game, you can tell that you probably have a good taste in gaming, lol.
Why Was PUBG Kr Made?
Before I tell you who can play PUBG Kr, let’s get you to know why this version was made in the first place. It is specially made for players in Korea and Japan. Why? Because it seemed that the PUBG Global version couldn’t be played optimally in Korea and Japan. This Korean version was an outcome to improve the gaming experience for both Korea and Japan, with benefits such as having less lag during gameplay and a higher ping.
A lot of sources write that PUBG Kr is made because of the ban of PUBG Mobile global. But this isn’t true. It was already there.
What Exactly Happened With All The Bans Around PUBG Kr?
This is a story where it gets interesting. It is a sensitive subject, and that's why hardly anyone wants to name it. All that has happened, has mainly to do with politics and culture. It also has to do a lot with the relationship between Korea and China, and India and China.
One side starts by making the PUBG Kr server exclusive, and then PUBG Global does that again… and so everyone gets limited.
So what exactly happened?
As you read before, you know that PUBG Mobile Kr was made to give Japanese and Korean players the best gaming experience. Less lag, fewer glitches, fewer bugs.
When the Indian government banned PUBG Global due to security reasons, the Indian player base went to PUBG Mobile Kr - which of course makes sense. The Indian government didn’t trust the game, which is made in China.
However, this affected the quality of the PUBG Kr game, according to Korea. They found that the internet connection of Indian players was too bad for the game to work optimally.
Therefore, PUBG Kr banned Indian players. But not only Indian players. They also don’t want global players to play the game anymore. And this means that only Korean and Japanese players are allowed to play this game.

The Bans Go Both Ways…
PUBG Global stopped providing service to Japanese and Korean players as well, so it goes both ways. As they stated:
‘’For our players in Japan and Korea, due to certain adjustments in PUBG Mobile, as of June 30, 2021 (23:59:59), PUBG Mobile will no longer support the service in Japan and Korea. Players in Japan and Korea should download the respective regional versions.’’
So it seems that countries are banning PUBG, and PUBG is banning countries. India was not the only one who banned PUBG, other countries banned PUBG as well due to violence, or that the game was too addictive or didn’t care about its users’ health (not warning about the ill effects of screentime) and so on.
What’s surprising, is that even China banned PUBG. Why is that surprising? Well, Tencent Games is the official distributor for PUBG Mobile, which is a Chinese entity. But they said they did this because of the amount of bloodshed there is within the game. But mainly, it is due to privacy reasons.
Who Can Play PUBG Kr?
I can be very short in answering this question. Only Japanese and Korean players can play PUBG Kr. At least, it is only meant for them. There’s still a way to play this Korean version when you are in Europe, which I will mention soon.
Besides the fact that PUBG Kr initially offered Korean and Japanese players the best gaming experience, the game is now also the solution for everyone who lives in Japan or Korea to still play PUBG, because PUBG Global is no longer supported in these countries.
PUBG Korea: Restricted
PUBG Kr is restricted to the Google Play and App Store of Korea and Japan. However, players of PUBG Kr can still play with PUBG Global players. The Korean version of PUBG is developed by Krafton Inc, which is a South Korean company that develops and distributes video games. It is currently one of the most popular alternatives of the PUBG Global version.

Is PUBG Mobile Kr better than PUBG Mobile Global?
In terms of gameplay, there's not much difference between PUBG Mobile Kr and PUBG Global Mobile. Does it make you a better player? No. Is it more difficult? No. A reason why players seem to switch to PUBG Mobile Kr is that there’s almost no lag during gameplay. Besides, there seem to be fewer glitches and bugs, and the game is better optimized for low-end devices (a.k.a. potato devices).
And of course, you will play better when you have less lag. So then the answer to the question: ''Does PUBG Mobile Kr makes you a better player?'', can be changed.
PUBG Mobile KR also features more outfits, skins, and exclusive events and crates that you can open. These skins also include gun skins, helmet skins, and vehicle skins. A lot of players agree that PUBG Mobile Korea has better rewards to offer, and therefore has a better reward system.
So PUBG Mobile Kr offers more promising (and permanent) rewards. Combined with less lag during gameplay, and fewer glitches and bugs, PUBG Mobile Kr is better than PUBG Mobile Global.
But know that this can vary from player to player. Some players switched back to PUBG Global again after trying out PUBG Mobile Kr, because they experienced desync and latency, for example.

How To Still Play PUBG Kr
The makers of PUBG Kr say: ‘’This application and this service can be used only from Japan and the Republic of Korea. We shall be able to determine your area of use by any method that we consider reasonable, such as your IP address.’’ So as you can see, they will act when they see an IP address that’s not from Japan or Korea.
But what if you could change your IP address? Then you would still be able to play the game. And that’s where a VPN comes in. With a VPN, you can change your IP address. Your IP address will change to an IP address in whatever country you select.
