Who would have ever known that Warhammer 3 would bring so much joy into Total War? Many players, maybe you too, have been skeptical about a realistic war game with fantasy in it. However, Warhammer 1 and 2 have been a massive success.
The Total War: Warhammer series gives new life to Total War! Warhammer 2 got released in 2017 and still looks very good after 4 years. Imagine how Warhammer 3 would look like when they release it this year in 2021. Make sure your gaming PC is ready for it.
Many Different Factions
A nice aspect of this game is that you can choose the side of many different factions. In short, you can join the ‘good’ side or decide to join the ‘dark’ side. For example, the good side is ruled by strong human forces, beautiful and powerful elves that live in the woods that have units that can fly. These units can easily annoy people from above. Hence the artillery of the elves is so good!
You can also choose factions from the dwarves. Don’t worry, they are very strong for their height. Maybe you think, how can dwarves be so strong? Well. They mine, they craft, they shape and smith all day and night. They don’t need training to become strong for those big fights.
Do you prefer to play as a vampire faction or faction with orcs? You can too. Each faction has its legendary heroes and benefits. A cool thing about the vampires is that they have a unique mechanic called ‘’The Dead Rise Again!’’. Their wiped units have a chance to survive.
What’s for sure is that Warhammer 3 will have lots of mythical locations. You can rule your kingdom in the forests, mountains, or even in the deep undergrounds. This also depends on the faction that you choose.
Dwarves usually live in the mines, the elves live in forests, and the orcs live in their ‘Badlands’. The monstrous creatures that each faction offers allow you to make unbeatable armies. We expect that Warhammer 3 will give the opportunity for very intensive sea battles too.

Now you know some background information about the Warhammer games, it’s time to watch the trailer. When you watched it, keep reading to discover all things that will most likely change in the game. The trailer tells you a lot, especially when you have a closer look at the video images.
Will the Kingdom of Kislev Get An Overhaul?
Have you seen the ice queen in the trailer in her nice purple dress? She is called Katarin and comes from the Kingdom of Kislev which is a Russian faction in the North.
This ice queen gets her strength and magic from the land. You can tell that she loves the snow and ice environment.
What we think, is that Kislev will become a stronger kingdom with newly added units. The polar bears with tusks that we have seen from the trailer will be one of them. Kislev's infantry will look Russian too, especially due to these typical fur collars. Kislev used to be the weaker faction, which not gets an overhaul and storyline too. They will also get the opportunity to survive…How come that Kislev now has the opportunity to survive? In Warhammer 1 and 2, Kislev has been a powerful kingdom with lots of lands. They only had one big problem: their geographic location. This was close to the spawn of Chaos.
During the game, there were multiple waves where lots of Chaos creatures spawned to destroy everything. Every wave of Chaos became stronger, and the closer your kingdom was to their spawn, the more careful you had to be. Kislev was always being picked on by the forces of Chaos.

The Power Of Chaos
Especially in Warhammer 1, Chaos was to be feared. They could make you shake of fear in your castle. If you wanted to survive the waves of Chaos, you had to defend yourself very well using a great number of armies.
This is because the units of Chaos were generally better. They have stronger spearmen and infantry quite early in the game.
Warhammer 2 made a big change to how undefeatable Chaos was. This is because Warhammer 2 added powerful factions to the game such as the High Elves. With these factions, you were able to make strong forces early on. This made it relatively simple to defeat Chaos.
Also, Warhammer 2 added dragons to the game, which allowed you to counter Chaos' strong infantry. By using your spells, and spreading the fire on their units you can melt a big part of their force – when aiming correctly.
Chaos In Warhammer 3
Even though we will have stronger factions to choose in Warhammer 3, there is a high chance that Chaos will become the unstoppable force again that it used to be in Warhammer 1. We have spotted Chaos-like creatures in the trailer. For example, the creature you have seen around 1:52 could be the new Chaos Lord! What’s also noticeable, is that we see units called ‘Bloodletters from Khorne’.
Since the trailer focuses on the power of Chaos, I am assured that they will get a huge overhaul and become very powerful again.
The good thing is that it seems that Kislev will be stronger so they can better defend themselves. I expect we will get more intense and strong battles, and that Chaos is there to be feared!

New Faction Cathay: Inspired By China
So we know that the Kingdom of Kislev will get an overhaul. But, there will also be a complete new faction in the East. This is the faction of Cathay, and it’s inspired by China. A whole new area is being added to the game. How will this new faction be like?
The end of the trailer shows us a map, with some small figurines on it. This part of the trailer tells you a lot of things. Firstly, you can spot the Chinese wall on the map. An interesting side note here is that the Chinese wall is based on Chinese mythology. This wall was built against the evil that was about the come. Can you see the point I’m trying to make here? This wall is meant to stop the evil of Chaos.
We can spot three figurines colored blue, red, and green. Each color has a meaning.
- Blue: the Ice Queen Katarin
- Red: the new Chaos lord
- Green: for the new faction Cathay

This new Chaos Lord can be the creature that we have seen in the trailer. The green figure has the ‘Jade’ color which is associated with China. It’s cool how you can see the connection between these things.
Next to the map, there is a letter that's addressed to Yuri. This letter tells you that Yuri is entrusted with a special task and sent North. There is a high chance that he will be the second Legendary Lord of Kislev with his specific storyline and mission. It’s very well-done that the trailer reveals quite some things in a way it makes sense.
Our Conclusion About Warhammer 3
The trilogy of Warhammer will end with Warhammer 3. You can expect huge and intense battles that you have never seen before! Since the trailer is focused on the power of Chaos, we expect that Chaos will get a buff with stronger units. Especially the new Chaos lords will make Chaos a lot more terrifying than in Warhammer 2.
The Kingdom of Kislev will become a stronger faction too, which can help them to defend themselves better against the forces of Chaos. Kislev will get new units, and one of them are the polar bears with tusks. Imagine attacking Chaos with a huge army of these bears. The new faction Cathay that will be added within the game, will also bring its own Eastern warriors.
Cathay is a faction inspired by China. The map shows a Chinese wall next to it. We can relate this to Chinese mythology: the Chinese wall was built against the evil that was about to come. Well, Chaos will be the evil that’s coming their way. When we look at the location of the spawn of Chaos, Cathay lays on their right. So Cathay, be prepared!
